In 2018, I scribbled my thoughts under the banner Might is Right a premonition of a future where technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), would steer our world. Today, that future is not just here—it’s already transforming us in ways we didn’t anticipate. One crucial aspect, however, has emerged as a point of paradoxical contention—our increasing reliance on the precise predictions of AI, often at the expense of comprehending the underlying processes.
As we’ve unlocked the astonishing potential of AI and ML, we’ve progressively veered towards a reality where “accuracy” takes precedence over “understanding.” Our focus has shifted towards getting immediate, accurate results, sometimes without grasping how these answers came to fruition.
A prime illustration is the advent of AI in healthcare. Imagine a futuristic AI doctor capable of diagnosing diseases with an accuracy surpassing human physicians. Leveraging vast databases and complex algorithms, this AI doctor delivers quick, precise diagnoses. Yet, we might not fully understand the intricate mechanics behind its conclusions. Herein lies the paradox—while the AI doctor’s ‘rightness’ is its ‘might,’ our comprehension of this power becomes secondary.
Similar scenarios unfold across other domains. In financial markets, machine learning models predict economic trends with impressive precision. In climate science, AI predicts future weather patterns with astonishing accuracy. In each case, the ‘rightness’ of their predictions is undeniable, but the understanding of how they achieve such precision often remains in the shadows.
This dynamic presents a new challenge in our AI-enhanced world. How do we balance our thirst for instant, precise solutions with our inherent need for comprehension?
“Right is Might,” once a futuristic vision, has evolved into a complex paradox in our AI-dominated reality. As we reap the rewards of AI’s predictive power, we must also grapple with our somewhat sidelined quest for understanding. It is a delicate balance—one that will define our relationship with technology as we continue to unravel the fascinating potentials of AI and ML.

It is possible AI is going to be no better or worse than today’s mainstream media which many people accept for gospel without checking for accuracy…
