To say Generative Artificial Intelligence assistants is a revolution,I think by now is a settled matter. It is here to stay and as with fire, farming, and electricity there is no way of putting the cat back in the box. So how should schools react and what should students do?
At first glance this technology can be seen as a detriment to schools who’s purpose is to educate our younger generation. I agree this changes everything and schools will fail unless they change quickly, but for students this revolution will be transformative.
Finally the age old philosophical and scientific maxim of “the question is more important than the answer” will have an impact everywhere, and more specifically in Schools that harness the new technology.
My belief is, once schools start adopting the ChatGPTs of the world, and more importantly teachers adopt the strategy of using Artificial Intelligence assisted work instead of forbidding it from their students, a transformational emergence will occur which will change education for the better.
A big part of education is preparing you for the real world. What good will it be if we forbid our young generation from using such a powerful tool only to have them compete against it once they are asked to be productive in a brave new world?
A teacher’s perspective on this issue would help greatly and would very much be appreciated and welcomed as a comment to this blog.
